Say Hypothetically, food got scarce, would it be legal to eat these animals for survival?

currently in the US it is not legal to eat cats and dogs but they are commonly eaten in china, korea, and other asian coutries. but if food did get scarce it probably would be legal to eat cats and dogs, but i don't know if it would be very common because so many people love their furry friends

There are animal cruelty laws, but they're quite fickle - and full of prejudice.

Lamb, pig, cow - there's a loophole that let's us kill you without impunity, oh, and we get to torture you for your short, miserable life before we murder you.
Go figure. BTW, I would never kill you, but if I were starving and you were already dead, pass the BBQ sauce...
