Is it legal to draw a picture of a business without asking?

good question, if you copy something they have trademarked i would say no, but just a building in town? I would think so. i mean, you allowed to take pictures of any building you want, then what you do with the work is up to you. As long as you aren't making sales based on the business, why should they mind?
Heck, offer them a percentage to sell them at their place of business.

A building is not copyrighted. You can draw it, you can photograph it, you can video it, you can even doodle it. It's all legal. And yes, you can even legally sell such work, since it's not the building that you're selling.

A building DESIGN may be copyrighted, in which case you could not duplicate that design in constructing another building, but you're not building buildings.

There is a very old business in town, and I would love to draw it. I am selling my art work. Do I need the owners permission?
