I use gmail chat to chat with my friends and co-workers and sometims boss (or used to). My boss and one of my co-workers have been printing out my chat conversations and giving them to my manager. Also they would screen print so they could print what my status says. All of these communications take place while I am at home and not on their time. I feel like my privacy has been violated. I got written up for my attitude. An attitude I expressed outside of work.
Is it legal for my employer to discipline me for something I said outside of work?
