Is it legal for a potential employer to discuss job applications with other employees?

I was previously a cashier at a grocery store. I left my two weeks notice back in April, but recently I decided to reapply because I am currently out of a job.

I have a close friend who works at the store and he told me that one of the employees there (currently a customer service worker with no management position) asked why I reapplied. This bothers me because I do not feel that my job application information should be discussed with anybody except management and human resources. Neither my friend or the person who asked my friend are in any high position in that store.

Are potential employers allowed to discuss my application with others? My father says it is a violation of my privacy.

What action should I take?
This store has a very large management team. They have not contacted me about my application, yet they are discussing that I applied with other employees.
