My husband is in the navy, and his schedule used to be 3 (about 14 hour shifts) days, and then he'd get 2 days off. Now, they have him working 8 hours a day, every day, no days off! Is it even legal for someone to be working 24/7? I understand he's in the military and his job is very demanding, but this sounds fishy! Apparently there was a situation, and now they need members to "qual up" because they're short one person. I feel like they're getting miss-treated for someone screwing up and it just doesn't seem right.
Well, hmm we've been married for 2 years, almost 3, and we got married WHILE he was in the navy. I understand that he can't have off all the time, he missed several holidays and important events. But my question is, working 24/7, is he a damn robot? The military must be a bunch of retards to send in members who are half awake to protect this country.
Robert- thank you for seeing eye to eye with me on this...

I don't like what I see on these responses to your questions. Yes, we as military personnel are on call 24/7, but there are a couple things I would like to enlighten you to.

1. I just joined the National Guard and it is hard to even get into the Navy due to the economy and the military being fully manned now. How can he be so over worked is beyond me!

2. There are resources you have as a wife.
(1) The Command Chaplain.
(2) The Command Master Chief

3. The reason the military doesn't like over work it personnel is mostly moral and safety. Safety because if you don't get sleep people tired make mistakes. Sometimes deadly mistakes!

Yes, just like it is legal for them to be deployed 24/7 for over 365 days, it is like a salaried employee. They have signed that contract, they are government property. Are you a new wife? You will feel like that more and more...wait until you get shorted a holiday or a whole holiday weekend because someone lost a piece of paper!

well he is working 8 hours a day so its not 24/7 and he signed up for the military so he knew he would be working alot i dont agree with all this because my brother is in the army and in iraq right now but it is legal for them working everyday.

His job is a 24/7 job whether or not he actually puts in those hours. Being in the military means you belong to the government and you are always on call. Your time is never your own unless they give it to you.

Honestly, do you think the people out in combat punch a clock?

Anyone in the military is only required to receive 1 hour of sleep and 1 meal a day. Anything beyond that is a privilege. His ass belongs to the government; and there is no one to complain to.

Yes it's legal,,
I know you want to support your husband & that is great but be supportive not derogatory towards his career field choice. He was not drafted. Military are looked upon highly for making those hard choices & doing those hard things,,, GREAT for your husband for stepping up to the plate. But please remember some are in worse places working longer hours while getting shot at --- it's legal & they asked to be there.
