I'm looking to buy a house - apparently the residents are deceased and their children are selling the house. They claim that they cannot issue any statement of disclosure since they didn't actually live in the house. But I find it hard to believe that they know absolutely NOTHING. Of course we'll have a structural inspection done and all that, I just want to know if this is legal or if they're trying to 'give us the business.'
We found out today that the residents lived there for at LEAST 30 years, and that the kids who are selling the house were raised there. Also, there has been work done on the septic tank in the past 3 months - since the parents passed away. Seems like they're being less 'smart' and more 'blatantly dishonest.' The question is, is this legal, and what do we do about it?
Also, this is in the state of Indiana.
