Is it impossible for Anti-Theists and Christians to really debate?

The reason I ask is that one of the principle reasons for belief that a christian has is the reality or impressions that they receive from the holy spirit.

Anti-Theists however will often call this the "imaginary friend" syndrome.

Not to be one sided, "some" christians beleive that the old testement is essentialy an accurate in some cases inerrant version of history.

This of course can go against a large amount of factual historical history.

So is it impossible for them to really have a meaningful discussion based on these starting points.

As a side point Christopher Hitchens (anti-theist) did debate William Lane Craig at the Bible institute of Los Angeles and it is available on you tube.
I am a Christian and Ravi Z is "OK" but he doesnt understand the opposing sides viewpoint.

For example from what I have seen he doesnt have any understanding of what the theory of evolution explains.

He still thinks that it is random chance (which of course it is the opposite of)

I have yet to witness a debate that did not involve both parties talking past each other. I haven't given up hope, though...

They would have to find common ground to debate from. Based on what you said the answer is no. The debate would have to go back to what led them to their conclusions, and whether or not that was valid. And they would have to agree on what is valid or not. I don't see that happening.
