Is it illegal to watch TV broadcasts from other countries?

I do not live in the eastern time zone - hence, during the Winter Olympics, I watched many of the events online, live, using proxy servers. German and Canadian channels broadcast their TV streams online live, so, that's what I watched instead of NBC's delayed broadcast.

This led to a debate over whether or not this is actually "legal" for ME to do this.

The argument is that NBC paid exclusive broadcast rights for the entire US, and hence, it is a civil violation (recoverable via tort) for me to evade NBC's broadcast and watch a foreign broadcast.

My argument is that there was no contractural privity between me and NBC, or me and the IOC - and hence, it is impossible for such a thing to be "illegal." After all - I never agreed to ONLY watch NBC's broadcasts of the Olympics.

Who is correct?
