With being told you can't have a knife on your person, more so a Lock-knife, what happens if i am camping and touring, is it still illegal to carry. I am not wanting to get into trouble and never ever carry a knife on my person even when camping, only in my bags whilst touring and only for camping use.
My other question is why do they still allow shops to sell Camping Knives if they are illegal, surely they should stop selling altogether to stop people getting ideas whilst looking in a shop window and seeing knives on display.
I know most will say you should keep away from knives but they are needed at times whilst camping so please don't criticise, and may i say mine is locked safely away always in a safe unless i go for long trips to Scotland.

No not at all, technically its not illegal to carry knifes as long as you have good reason, like say, you've just bought a kitchen knife set from argos and are taking it home. Most police do still have some common sense despite what the news likes us to believe, if they see you carrying a tent and camping equipment they'll send you on your way, that is, as long as its reasonable just a standard camping knife not a samurai sword or something. If you were a shifty 14 year old hanging around dark street corners, then they would confiscate it

your allowed to carry any knife if you have a purpose for it, I could walk down the street with a machete or bowie knife(examples) if I had a reason to have them, like if I'm a tree trimmer, etc.
so your allowed to have it if your using it while camping, either ways, these laws usually only matter if your in public, like in the middle of a city or large town where carrying such a knife might be threatening instead of a tool. if your using it as a tool, like while camping, then it's legal, this law usually applies when the knife is obviously a weapon, not a tool.

I take it you are from Scotland / England area?

Your culture must have a little different attitude towards knives than mine (Michigan, USA). Knives are tools; not weapons.

Quick story: my Grandpa's factory union went on strike years ago. He bought a pitchfork for his farm from a hardware store and then stopped by the picket line to talk to his coworkers. A law enforcement officer saw him with his pichfork and told him "That's a weapon! You can't have that here!". My grandpa responded; "It's a tool! I also have the tool to commit rape but that doesn't make me a rapist! (He was able to keep his pitchfork)

Knives are simply tools; very useful tools. I feel naked if I don't have my knife in my pocket; especially when camping. Obviously, check the laws in your country so that you don't end up in trouble. If the law forbids carrying knives; I'd be writing letters or something to try to change it.
