Is it illegal to use another author's title for my personal purpose?

I liked one of Stephen King's titles for the needs of my novel.
Of course, the story is tottaly different but the title is -actually-the same.
Don't know if smth like this could be considered as a matter against copyright law.Could it be?

what is the title? I could help you change it in case! Like, say it's the elephant, make it elephant or the other way around.
 
No, book titles can't be copyrighted.

However, I'd strongly advise against reusing the title of a book by a famous author. People who've read the first one will glance at yours and assume they've read it already, and people who didn't read it because they don't like King's writing (or horror, or whatever) are likely to overlook it too.
 
The name of the book is not copyrighted. Just the idea in the book.

There could be 100s of books called "The Cell"

As long as the books aren't about cellphones turning people into zombies, then they are fine.

There are 1000s of books out there with the EXACT same title as each other.
 
No. It is not illegal to use the same title, or a breach of copyright law. Only the content of a book can be copyrighted. However, for the sake of your own unique identity as an author, I would advise against using the same title as a famous book.
