its almost like taking a practice driving test..is that illegal?

im in CA by the way

Is your plan to follow someone taking the behind the wheel test?

It really won't help you that much. You may know what the route is and can determine all the proper speed limits, but the test is about far more than that. The test also determines whether you are aware of your surroundings, other cars, pedestrians as well as your skill in maneuvering the vehicle along the test route.

Keep practicing until you are completely comfortable in the vehicle and are completely aware of what is going on outside the car and you are able to appropriately and safely able to react to situations.

No. That's not illegal. After I failed my first test the instructor told me to practice the same route I'd just failed so I could pass it the next time.

There's absolutely no issue with that. It's not cheating, it's not illegal. As long as you have your permit, you're fine. There's no rule that you can't drive around the DMV. However, I would suggest not doing it a million times in one day, might get a bit suspicious. No one likes to see the same car go by more than twice.

Im confused as to why you would need to practice....

But anyhow, to answer your question.. I don't know how it could be illegal and how they would catch you even if it was illegal.
