Is it hard to start a business?

Is it hard to start a business? I mean I read that you need good credit and some say that you don't need good credit. but wouldn't you need to take out loans? or get lucky and get a government grant?
I'm reading alot of books but then afterwards I never know where to go and where to start...can someone that owns a business help me? please? or email me?
