Is it essential to be able to not look when typing further down in college?

I just got a nice laptop for school. I was wondering if typing fast in college is essential later down the road?

Not at all. You do not need to type notes in full sentences.

Well obviously the faster you type, the better off you'll be because you'll be able to take more notes and get more info in there. If you can type without looking it means you can copy from the slides/board faster because you're not wasting time looking up and down.
