Is it eco-friendlier to purchase a Toyota Corolla? Or to purchase a Toyota Prius?

I'm looking into purchasing a car that will take me to and from school and work. Currently I'm interested in the 1998-2002 models of the Toyota Corolla and the 2nd Generation Toyota Prius. Luxury accessories such as power windows, sunroof, leather seats...etc. are not important to me. My goal is to have a means of personal transportation (other than my bicycle) that has the least harmful effect on our planet. Soon I will be commuting to another city and my bike will not be very practical (or legal) on a major highway! If you have any personal experience from commuting with either vehicle, please help me out and tell me what you think about your car! Or if you know a lot about either car, your help is much appreciated as well! Thank you and have a great day!
 
The Prius has a decidedly greener footprint because you are either running off battery in town at low speeds or using battery assist on the highway. The less the engine runs, the fewer emissions you are putting into the atmosphere. But if the price of the Prius drives you away, there is certainly no shame in a Corolla. It is a pretty friendly car that gets quite good gas mileage on its own. Also, the Toyota Yaris (which replaced the Echo) is quite the miser and rather clean running. Also not considered frequently enough is the raw material and natural resources used in building the car. Small cars take far fewer natural resources which is green of its own accord (no pun toward Honda). You have a great day also!!
 
The Prius has some power it can get about 53.5 Ianthee summer and 47.7 in the winter [my moms ]
You get 50,000 out of the tires .
