The easiest way i know to make a beautiful rock garden is to start off by going to lowes and get a plastic water garden mold and dig a hole to fit. Then put your choice of transition landscape around the side of the mold. Make sure the mold is level with the ground. What I would do is plant creeping flocks or "thrift" at the top of the rock. The plant will grow over but mostly around the rock. And put mulch around the aquagarden.
P.S. Thrift doesn't need alot of water. Water them good 2-3 times a month. And you dont have to have an aquagarden mold but you need something to keep water from seeping down in the ground to the watertable. Oh and to keep away algae you would need a pump.
