celebrities equally? Is there a danger in presuming that all celebrities are known equally to all ethnic groups? For example, there was once an Egyptologist who spoke about how some of his students claimed that Cleopatra was black. In the midst of his explanations, he mentioned Elizabeth Taylor's portrayal of Cleopatra. He was then surprised to hear that his students didn't know who Elizabeth Taylor was. Is it possible that African-Americans are less likely to know about Elizabeth Taylor, or is the professor correct to presume that every ethnic group should be equally aware of her?

There are too many variables, including where these people live and were raised, what socio economic class, etc. In general, young people don't know celebrities from a certain time period because to know that kind of thing would make one old and a fuddy-duddy. They may know who this person is but won't admit because their friends will laugh at them.

Not all cultures are familiar with every celebrity. Only the ones that look like them racially.
