Yes, utilmately feeder fish have an extremely high and un nessessary risk of dieases and not to mention that they are not full of nutrition.
There have also been reports that feeding live freshwater fish to marine predators affects the fishes liver which causes a shorted life span.
lionfish, volitans mostly are extremely adaptive to prepared foods. Frozen silver sides, raw table shrimp etc... will be accepted by them. Now at first due to stress of shipping, lionfish can tend not to eat anything that isnt alive but over time you can work with them to get them off live foods.
Alot of people report using feeder shrimp like ghost shrimp which dont pose that much of a high risk as the main "live" food source.
