I've been a vegan for a little over a year, and was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma over the summer. As far as cancer goes, it's not that serious, but I mean, it is still cancer and I'd like to do everything I can to be as healthy as possible. For now my doctor has insisted on diet modifications except that I work to put on some weight (I'm 10 pounds under the minimum weight for my height), and we haven't really had the time to talk to much about food. I know that people with more extreme forms of cancer sometimes have to eliminate all raw foods, but I doubt I'll ever be in that situation. I'd like to remain a vegan and am curious about whether it could end up benefitting me because of all the antioxidants I'm getting.
I'm 17, and in Stage II (b), and also have hyperthyroidism (under active thyroid).
Is anyone else here a vegan experienced with these sorts of health issues?
*D'oh. Sorry, I meant to say that for not my doctor has NOT insisted that I modify my diet. She just wants me to work on gaining weight.
Alan: *yawn* I became a vegetarian at the age of ten after vacationing on a farm and watching a calf being born. It's a foul smelling combination of arrogance and ignorance to assume that humans can only get protein from animals. There's no need to eat them. If you have such an issue with vegans and vegetarians, then you may want to just stay out of the section for vegans and vegetarians. Simple concept, no?
