Is it absolutely necessary to take pictures with DSLR for my undergraduate portfolio?

I intend to major in architecture and am particularly interested in Pratt, RISD and Cornell. I've included sketches and paintings in my portfolio, but I think I should also be submitting photographs (I've completed a basic professional photography course; the institute provided the camera) Unfortunately, I'm not getting a DSLR any time soon...the only camera I have is a 14.1 megapixel Cybershot. T.T
