Is is safe to flush the transmission of my 2004 Toyota Camry?

I have a 2004 Toyota Camry with 117,000 miles. I went in for an oil change today, and one of the men recommended a transmission flush. I googled this and came up with mixed reviews. I've never had this done to my car before; never even heard of it before today. I'm reading that it could be dangerous to flush the tranmission for the first time with such high mileage. On the other hand, I'm also reading that some of the cars that have had slight shifting problems have seen a major improvement with transmission flushing. I have noticed a slight "kick" lately when my car shifts, nothing too bad though. If this solves the problem, I'm all for it. I just want to do what's best for my car and my pocketbook. I CANNOT afford to purchase a new transmission now. And I'm worried that if I do the flush, it will kill my transmission, but if I don't do it, it will kill my transmission. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't know anything about cars and neither does my husband, so I need all the advice I can get.
