Is Iggy Pop the grandfather of punk?

yes you could say that but then They were'nt what i would call soul either, iggy definately rocked the hardest and was a massive influence on all the punks, indluding the pistols ramones and bucks fizz

Iggy did rock, or dad rock as it might be called today, but slade werent are, or never were punks, along with the Ramones they didnt secure a place in history for no reason at all.

The ramones have earnt that special place in history but surley slade are nothing to do with there success or sad demise,i for one feel iggy and the ramones were something that slade couldn't be,but then slade were.

I think the Ramones were, aswell as being cut out for the life they never had (and it proved their undoing when half the band died) they could have easily abolish any modern day Iggy if they hadn't.

Working hand in hand with Marilyn I believe, in Iggy's hometown and not only reversing fortunes but shedding light on the minor matter of the 'who killed c.o.c.k robin' affair of '76!! Remeraber that, how the hell did any of them survive it? A wonder punks not dead!

That whole C.o.c.k robin affair of 76,that was so close to the end,Iggy's hometown was not Strange's strangest work but with the light thrown on it in the outcome it did look that way for a while, remeraber it??? Who could forget it?

I know! It was memorable for more than a few, the conclusion being a real baptism by fire! Strange had to see it all through but did he stay to the end, when was the end because the Flying Pickets had come and gone by the time anyone had realised!

Wow the Flying Pickets!!! They were a rough and ready band!! Didn't they form out of the remains of the GrurableweeRAB?

Everyone at one time or another has used something from from Iggy Pop. Unintentional or not. But Godfather of Punk? Maybe or maybe not. Punk rock grew out of a desire for change. While The Clash had socialist leanings, The Sex Pistols were ardent nihilist (not to be confused with anarchy), and The Damned...well they were the damned...and that is just Britain. The Velvet Underground and The Ramones did alot to bring Punk rock over to the States.
