I heard the other day that horse riding is said to be one of the most dangerous sports to do, is it true? Ive been riding since i was 3 and my worst fall was when i was bucked off and smacked and cut my cheekbone on a branch. So is it really that dangerous?

thanks (:
faye, i have great horses, my past ones you could put your grandmother on and she'd be safe, but my new cob doesnt stop and can be naughty which is the one ive had my fall on xD

You've either been lucky, or you've been riding good horses.

Yes riding is statistically the most dangerous non extreme sport.

I personaly have been riding since i was able to hold my own head up, (so 22 years ish) and have had hundreds of falls. I've been seriously hurt in some of them. The worst being when i crushed 2 discs in my lower back. I ride young horses, high strung competition horses and problem horses though.

If you look at how many people Die each year riding (perticularly in eventing). what other sport has a mortality rate like ours?

ETA. Horses are dangerous no matter what you are doing, Last year a woman in the UK Died in an inhand class (leading the youngster). The youngster reared up, came down on her head and killed her. Leading a horse can be just as dangerous as riding one.
