Is history shaped and controlled by a few great leaders?

For example Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Louis XIV. How are leaders remembered today?
 
It's shaped and controlled by the nameless warriors. The millions, probably billions of men and women who have died in battle and decided the victories or the losses. Yes Alexander LED the people to victory in many battle like Tyre with strategy, but the warriors in his army were the ones who decided the outcome.
