Is Genocide or the killing off of children OK if God commands it?

There's a lot of it in the Old Testament. The Lord commands that entire peoples be wiped out (every man, woman and child). Why is this OK?
'If you God is the creator and is capable of giving life to dead, then it is perfectly OK.'
So there's people here that would have no trouble killing children if some God asked them to?
