Is Full Version Of This Website Available On Lumia 800?

Hi

Hoping that some kind person/expert can tell me if the full NON mobile version of a specific website can be used on a Lumia 800. Having played about with the Lumia in a mobile shop I do like it but need to find a mobile that can display this website properly(my current Android phone will only allow the mobile version to be shown due to its unwillingness to handle Java).

The website is:

ADVFN.COM

it is a financial website, that displays streaming share prices.

As I mentioned, my current phone will display the mobile version no problem at all but it is the full, non mobile version that I am looking for. In fact I can get the full non mobile version of the Home page of this site no problem either on my Android mobile- BUT my current phone seems to fall down when asking to see the "monitor" section of this website(a list of shares that stream continuously), where it asks to download a Java plug in to allow the streaming to work.

I guess this all hinges on whether Java plug ins can be downloaded and used on Windows phones, so if anyone knows the answer to that it would be useful

Needless to say the website works absolutely fine on a huge nuraber of laptops around the world.

Would be grateful for any thoughts on this one, or even better if anyone has it running said monitor section in the "full fat version" of the website!

In case it matters to anyone it is free to register for the website and free to use at the basic monitor level.

Thanks for any help.

Many thanks for doing that carman 58....but....that is the home page that I mentioned in the original page that I CAN get on my android phone.

You need to click on the Monitor tab(top towarRAB the left of page) to see if that works after getting the home page you have posted. I've set up a dummy account in case you need to log in first(parhaps you can log in after hitting the monitor tab) before you see the monitor tab:-

user name:removed

password: removed

Then it should show the full website version with streaming share prices, etc when the markets are open. However it will probably ask you to download Java which is the key to all this whether the Lumia will allow this to be done.

I'd be extremely grateful if you or anyone else could try this and let me know if it works.

Many thanks for any further help.

No smartphone can run Java applets in the browser!!

However, a dedicated app could be developed.
And that's what ADVFN did about a year ago. Released an iOS app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

They say support for other platforms are on the way.
So an iPhone could be your only way right now!
But make sure first that the app really does everything for you!!

Hmmm. That's a HUGE disappointment, but many thanks for putting my mind at rest anyway. I assume there is nothing on the market that WOULD make it run on a smartphone like a Java emulator or something like that? You can tell I'm NOT very technical!!

As an aside: do you, or anyone else, know if any tablet type computer can run Java applets?

I have tried the iphone app and whilst it is an improvement on the android mobile version it still isn't as useful as the full, normal laptop, version of it so the search continues....

My thanks once again for all help

There is no workaround I know of, and I'm afraid there no feasible workaround even!! You could google though for some answers..

Any Windows 7 tablet could do that.
There aren't many out there.. But the three to recommend at the moment with a doubt:
Samsung Series 7 Slate, HP Slate 500, and there is still a one from Asus, a 13.1" slate as well.. I forgot its name though, I'm sorry.
These are pretty capable and feature full tablets. Concerns are battery lives of course, and the touch unfriendly evironment of Windows 7..
The Samsung one seems the best balance between size and performance, and it will be all ready to get upgraded to Windows 8 as well..

Or you could wait till Sept.-Oct. time and get fresh Windows 8 tablet which will be all touch friendly..

I somehow expected that.. Actually for such a thing a smartphone in general is not very well suited. Due to limited screen size..
And also not all apps could offer same functionality one neeRAB and uses on PC platforms..

False Morel

Many, many, thanks for the time taken to so comprehensively answer my question, it is very much appreciated. It is a pity that I can't get what I'm looking for but at least it saves me a lot of time searching!

I will investigate the tablet type route and the tablets you mention particularly in your reply.

Once again my thanks for your help.

PS: I will still consider the Lumia 800 as a smartphone replacement for my own hanRABet. I would need to find out whether or not it has good reputation for picking up a mobile signal as my current hanRABet is great for most things but, ironically, pretty poor at that!!
