GM is owned by U.S. treasury department, some associations and companies, and the Canadian government. However, GM recently paid the loans back with interest. Chrysler is owned by the Italian automaker Fiat, which plans to make future Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge cars on Italian innovation. Ford is the only one that didn't take the bailouts, so are they the only "real" American car companies?
