Is finding alternative fuel sources important to politicians or just rhetoric?...

...(see details)? If we can put man on the moon, surely we can find alternative fuel sources. This is just an example...

If auto builders were able to use ocean water to power engines, there would be no way that could be regulated. The earth recycles water continuously and the supply would be endless.
My point is the government would only attempt to supply the public with things that they could tax and regulate. So, finding alternative options would only be pushed if it could be taxed.

What are your thoughts?
 
There are many great canards: there is the water fueled car, the cure for cancer that is being held off the market, and there is a handful of people who decide if the world will have food to eat. With all that said, how would any government benefit from having taxing fuel vs. having free fuel via the water fueled car? It does not add up. I do not have any special regard for politicians; but, it would be to the politic ans advantage to have essentially free fuel. The tax urge can be turned on other products consumed by the public: tobacco, hamburgers could be a newbie, booze of all descriptions, double the great traffic code violation fines. The tax options are limitless as is the imagination of your government.
