Is Family Guy sexist?

I'm a guy, but the way the female characters on FG are used is starting to really irk me. We all know about the Meg-bashing, but I would say Lois isn't too far from Meg's position as she gets abuse her way as well. Not to mention that there's a lot of man-on-woman rape jokes that make light of the situation and for relationship episodes (like the Stewie/Olivia one), the girls are nagging shrews who like being treated like crap.

I'm know I'm probably being a bleeding-heart liberal, but then I considered how almost all the heavy-hitters comedywise and in terms of focus are the male characters including the Peter/Joe/Clevand/Quagmire foursome. Do the writers just not know how to write for women (just like they admit to Meg, except in her case, being a teenage girl)? Is it sexist? Or am I just a sensistive PC thug?

Well, we must bear in mind that Family Guy was created by a guy and it's writing staff is mostly guys, so if the show ends up having a male outlook by default, it hardly comes as surprise. Also, it's not as if FG is the only show to be mostly a "boys' club". South Park? The Simpsons? Anyone?

True, most of the female characters on Family Guy are either morons or whores, but in FG's defense, most of the men on the show are equally either morons or whores.

Yes, Family Guy abuses women, but they also abuse children, the elderly, blacks, gays, rednecks, Hispanics, Christians, Jews, athiests, and everyone else in between. FG is an equal opportunity offender.

You sound like one of those Soccer Moms that are members of the PTC, who have nothing better to do but whine about TV shows on the air.

HAHAHAHAHAHA......NO. Sorry I criticized your favorite TV show. Anyway.
Just pointing out the discrepancy between how much is written for the male characters as opposed to the female ones and how they are treated in comparison. Of course the "boys club" mentality is in play.

I don't think it's sexist. It's been stated that FG makes fun of every single type of person. It'd actually be kind of unfair and selfish to only consider it sexist.

I kind of like this about Family Guy. Most sitcoms tend to always have the woman be the right about everything and never dare abuse the female characters. Family Guy goes there and beyond.

Eh, I don't know. I see those issues but I also can't help noticing how Peter and Chris are both incredibly dumb. Just like how Stan and his son are dumber than the women in American Dad. Just like how Homer and Bart are dumb compared to Marge and Lisa in The Simpsons. The more things change.......

Of course, Family Guy being what it is, everyone has been the victim of absolutely moronic behavior and denigrating treatment. So I suppose you could say it's an equal opportunity...well, whatever you'd like to call what it does, I suppose.

Yeah there's an equal amount of abuse towards men and women, so it's good to see that the double standards of 'girl hits boy, but boy hitting girl is awful' isn't an issue here.

One show that I know is sexist towards men is "Maury". They play the innocent music for the women during lie detector and paternity shows, but they play evil music for the guy in denial. They have the audience feel sorry for the woman by coming up with some BS story, and when the guy comes out, the audience turns into a lynch mob with their booing and yelling at the guy. Although it is fun during a paternity test when they and the woman look like idiots if the test comes back and that he's not the father.

Family Guy is no more sexist than most other shows on TV. (However, most other shows on TV are sexist... so yes, it is) The real toughie is finding a show that isn't sexist.

Is Family Guy sexist? God Yes! It's Family GUY not Family Gal. It might be arguably the most sexist show among the five major network's shows. I'm surprised that there's girls that really find Family Guy entertaining.

And by that strange logic I'm surprised there are black, Jewish, Irish, gay, British, Mexican or southern people who find it entertaining. My best friend (who is a GIRL) loves this show. In fact, this entire topic is ridiculous considering the show takes no prisoners.

I'd probably be offended if I were a member of any of those groups as well. I know several girls myself who enjoy Family Guy. I'm just surprised that none of them are ever offended by the way that Family Guy treats females. I mean just look at Quagmire alone.

See, with this show, you have to get that it's tongue in cheek and not malicious. The cracks on black people are not held back, and me and my sister crack up at most of them.

And that's the thing. I'm not sayin that it's right or wrong, good or bad, funny or not funny. But I definitely would say that it is a sexist show.
