Is Bell coming out with 1080p programming or is it just a rumor?I'v been using Rogers for the last 2 years and I might want to switch back to bell when I get a HD television.
Neither BEV or Rogers are programme providers, they are service providers, simply passing on the signals sent to them (well mostly since BEV changes some 1080i stations to 720P).
The broadcasters will not be broadcasting 1080P for quite a while due to bandwidth limitations both OTA and via the Service Providers.
If ever (1080P). I doubt we will ever see 1080P broadcasts as the ones allready broadcasting in 1080i are unlikely to pay to change all of their equipment for what would result in a very subtle change. The ones broadcasting in 720P (ESPN, ABC & FOX mainly) might upgrade their infrastructure to 1080P and film live sporting events in 1080P BUT these will most likely still be broadcasted in 720P or 1080i at best.
1080P would mean that ALL set top boxes would have to be changed. I doubt we will ever see it. In any case, they would be better off increasing bitrates/bandwidth to their signals rather then changing to a new format that requires even more bandwidth/higher bitrates.
Extremely unlikely in the foreseeable future. Their hardware does not support it and neither will their new MPEG4 receivers. It would make HD PPV worth buying though. If you want 1080p, get a 1080p capable BluRay or HD-DVD player. I would wait until the "format war" is over or get a dual format player.
I don't doubt that viewers in Japan, Taiwan and Singapore will be enjoying 1080p HDTV very soon. North America appears to be 10 years behind in similar innovations.
Well ,if you know of any tv provider offering 1080p please share it with us. In the future everybody will be doing it , but right now we are stuck in SD world as 90% of programming is broadcasted in standard definition , not even 1080i .
Out in the REAL world, providers maintain the 1080i signals presented to them because it's the right thing to do.
It's hard to respect Bell when they knowingly defraud their subs and down rez 1080i signals to 720p because their network and other infrastructure is only able to support minimal 1080i content, so their whole FullHD promo tour is a sham as is their claim of Canada's HD leader.
No respectable provider would do that to unsuspecting consumers.
I find it funny that current BEV HD ads tout it as the "True HD" experience. It seems they realized their error in the "FULL HD" promo. Pure marketing genius.
I call it as I see it. There is no lost love between BEV and I but on this front they get kudos from me.
The truth is every single one of our great Canadian telecom company is an evil empire led by a guy wearing a black cape/helmet and breathing loudly. Our only choice is what specific set of fallic symbols we choose tolerate being up our pants.
