Is Edward Gorey considered to be a poet?

i was wondering if he was a poet because in one of my college classes we are doing a research paper on one poet we could choose and i wanted it to be edward gorey because of his twisted but humorous tales. The problem is he must be a poet for me to research on. please answer asap
