is economics relevant to social work?

I'm thinking maybe majoring in economics in college then going to grad school for social work?
is this a good combo? or completely useless? should I major in something like sociology in college?
I feel like an economics degree will give me more career options, especially for jobs during/before grad school.

any input? please?
