Is depression recognised as an illness in the eyes of the law?

What is the difference between Statutory Sick pay and Incapacity Benefit.
I did not say bipolar I said depression brought on by stress and medical investigation for cancer.
 
Yes and many get disability checks for it but it may be condsiderd temporary, but if permant then the government will approve of it. Therefore it has to be approved by a board certified psychologist, it is considered a malady of chemical inbalance .
 
Yes it is. I think it would be more readily accepted by authorities if it had been diagnosed by a doctor. For some people the illness can be debilitating, therefore causing the sufferer to be disabled, unable to live a normal life and eligible to claim incapacity benefit. Many people suffer from short term depression from time to time throughout their lives but can still live a normal life for most of the time. If you were off work with depression then you would be entitled to SSP. If you were unable to work or hold down a job because of it you could perhaps claim Incapacity Benefit.
 
i dont think you get either for being bipolar, it doesnt really stop you from working unless you do something pretty drastic as a result, and in that case i reckon itd fall under sick pay
