...Universities a good move? Plans being proposed to the government by David Willetts suggest that these non-profession courses should be funded wholly by tuition fees, with their teaching grants slashed:

This means that someone who wants to study courses that are not directly linked to professions will pay much more than those who study medical subjects or sciences.

Is it not fair that if someone wants to study rubbish courses such as Sociology, Media Studies, or Journalism (no journalist ever studied journalism) that no public spending is wasted on them; whereas Engineering, Medicine or Chemistry will contribute directly to beneficial employment in the UK - or do you disagree?
