is curling really a sport?

they are throwing a big rock with a handle on ice and scrubbing the ice with a rubber brush. this is more a chore and silly or stupid than a sport, i mean come on, why spend years practicing this when you could be getting a life instead of scrubbing ice, it is already water! god people!
