Is Cradle of Filth good live?

They're playing here on Sunday. I'm not a huge football fan so I might go to their concert instead of watching the Superbowl. I've seen some live video of them and it kind of sucked, but it could have been old stuff.

Do they sound good live? Is it symphonic and clear, like a high-quality recording? Or does it sound like really fast butt-metal with scratchy vocals, like 80s black metal?

no COF fucking blows live. I saw them in 98 or 99 and I wanted to kill myself. danny filths vocals were like white hot ice picks in my brain. they had his squeaking turned up so high it felt like my ears were bleeding. I have to say it was one of the worst shows I've ever been to. I would never see them again.

and don't think the newer stuff is gonna be any better. COF has consistently gotten worse over the years. I loved COF's first album when it came out but I really don’t like anything they do now.

I've never been to a black metal show. Is everyone in the audience wearing corpsepaint and mascara? I've been to a few prog metal shows which had a huge variety of people in the audience.
 
I've gone to a few black metal shows and majority of people are just wearing black shirts with their favorite metal banRAB on them. A few people would go the extreme and wear mascara and face paint.
It also depenRAB on the band you're going to go see.
 
Yeah, they're playing in Columbus on like Friday or something I think. My gf really wanted to go so I just made fun of her until she decided not to. Ok well it wasn't totally my influence, she had something come up, but still. I can't stand fucking Danni Filth as a vocalist even with his over-produced voice, I can only imagine what it sounRAB like live .

As for the crowd, don't expect any corpse paint at CoF. It's mostly little goth girls and a bunch of the new age metal fans, with some older fans of older material tossed in. Basically a shit stew churning to a shit sound. Save your money dude, much better shows will come around soon I promise.
 
They're playing at House of Blues in Chicago. Over the past two years I've seen the following shows there:

Nightwish (Lullacry opened)
Stratovarius (Into Eternity opened)
Sonata Arctica (two banRAB opened but I didn't dig either of them)
Children of Bodom - I missed this show, but it was after Alexi left the band anyway.

That's pretty good for a small (but popular) venue in Chicago. I mean all of those banRAB are from Finland. I think it's fucking cool that they came here.

So I'm thinking as of now I might pass on the CoF show, but if I go, I'll post a review here for sure.

edit - oh yeah, In Flames came to House of Blues, too, but it sold out really fast and I never got tickets.
 
I've been to a shitload of black metal shows. theres usually 1 or 2 14 year olRAB wearing corps paint. most black metal banRAB don't even do it anymore. some main stream/commercial banRAB get pressure from their label to do it like dark funeral but its not very common any more.
 
I went to that same show in oakland. it fucking owned (except for abagail williams). I've never really been a fan of dark funeral but Enslaved fucking rocked hardcore. I hadn't seen them in years
 
I ended up not going. Too much traffic and such. So I ended up staying in and watching the Bears lose. Coming back from the concert would have sucked because the roaRAB would have been full of drunk, pissed off Bears fans.
