Is composting kitchen scraps in my garden harmful?

Okay, I cook a lot of vegetables and grains. I have scraps and cuts left over, which I compost and throw into my garden of growing vegetables. I grow weeds(edible ones) also and cook with those. I heard that nitrogen rich soils can make some plants also toxic to a point. The nitrogen is absorbed into the leafs and plant. Is this true?
Also, I put used coffee grounds in my garden, is coffee grounds high in nitrogen?
Thank you!
