Is it illegal to pose as underage girls (<18) in chat rooms and see how pedophiles act regarding sex. After seeing "To Catch a Predator" and studying psychology, I became extremely curious as to how these people act and was wondering if it was legal for me to do firsthand? (as long as they messaged me first.) Much thanks.
Update: So it's illegal for someone to pose as a girl in a chat room? Can someone explain which laws this falls under? I mean, wouldn't it be illegal for the person committing the act and not me?

Plain and simple, if someone types that they're a minor, whether they are or not, there is blatant criminal intent on the part of the men who then proceed to say lewd things to the user.

Here's the deal, though. I don't know why you would want to do this. This is the stuff of traumatization. Men are very ugly and worthless, even MORE SO on the inside.

Still, if you, for the sake of entertainment, try to bring out the "monster" in a man, and he ends up being a person holding a high position (like a Rabbi), and you ruin his career having had no objective other than curiousity... he might try to take legal action.

On the Dateline NBC shows at least it's the cops, and they're doing it "to catch a predator," not just to perhaps get their names and addresses and post online that "this person said this to who he thought was a minor," or something like that...
