Is channel 888 a new channel on BEV?

What is channel 888 (206-4)? It is off the air right now but they seem to be working on this channel. Does anyone know something about this channel?

Was it really off the air, or was the PSA loop the intended content?

My initial thought was that is was a channel only seen on an FTA type unit, but I checked my commercial burn sheet and I saw it listed, exactly as you reported.

Good eye!

I see in my listing an HD station right below tagged as 206-3 on 887.
They both show on TP 23 on 82. Maybe CBC-W HD
Also FTA-1 and FTA-2, so what's up with that?

So it looks like 3 SD + 1 HD for that TP.

It's NOT mpeg4, it's an MPEG2 480i showing their channel in distress loop.

According to the analyzer I looked at.

I just looked at a very interesting analyzer today, its called the Sonicview 8000.....lol

It confirms what you said, MPEG2 480i.......

I know it not mpeg4 I saw it on a Expressview 2700, it's just a continous loop a video talking about about a tempoary loss of service. But it could be a test channel for mpeg 4 it the future, although more than likely it not.

Sorry, but if Bell were testing mpeg-4 ... and let's not forget that approximately zero out of 1.82 million customers can receive mpeg-4 from Bell ... doesn't it need to allocate an entire transponder to it?

I don't think you can have 1 MPEG-4 HD signal, 1 MPEG-2 HD signal and 8 SD MPEG-2 signals on one transponder, can you?

If they are going to play around with MPEG4 it would make sense to use the 73 degree location, I think I read that there is an "old" bird parked there right now....

There's at least 2, Nimiq 1's customer with the SV-8000 and probably another farther West.
Actually my local dealer was floggin' 50/week., So I'd guess at least several thousands or more by now in Canada, not including the U.S. gang that even without the DN 8PSK adapter are watching BEV HD and no add-ons required for QPSK MPEG2/4 signals.

Of course speaking for Bev's customer waiting in the lurch there are NONE! ;)
