Is CC in bikes is related to fuel efficiency in bikes?

I have read that if CC is more the engine size will be more. I am thinking like, if engine size is more, pickup will be very faster.
Is this the main thing related to CC in bikes?
Or it related to fuel efficiency also. Which CC is better for fuel efficiency?
