Is biking as good for the heart as walking?

A sedentary lifestyle has made me gain weight, raised my blood pressure and enlarged my heart. I'm on medication and also walking every day to lose belly fat and improve my health. I'd like to add some variety to my exercise. Will the stationary bike help me lose the subcutaneous fat as effectively as walking? How do you know?
 
the bike is great for cardio exercise, but why not ride a bike outdoors and get fresh air and sights while working out?
