Is biking a good exercise..?

I just recently started getting into biking again, especially for the season. I don't know if it matters a whole lot, but i just bought a Boulder Giant Mountain Bike and i'm hoping it was worth the money i put into it. If you have any experience with those, please share some info as to of how effective it was for losing weight (if you did lose weight, or gain muscle).

I also go biking MOSTLY on pavement and for about an hour and a half. Is that effective enough for weight loss or should i start going longer? I want to lose fat on my inner/outer thighs, and glutes, BUT i don't want huge muscular legs. I'm more leaning towards lean, fit legs. The only reason i'm asking this is because i tend to see a lot of bikers who have pretty large calves, and pretty large thighs. Should i be worried? LOL.

P.S-
Please NO rude comments or anything.. i'm really just curious about all this and would like some advice :)

-- Please keep in mind, i DO also go to the gym 4-5 days a week and i'm constantly using the bikes there as well. I normally go on for about 30-35 minutes and i use the treadmill and lift weights for about 10 minutes.
