Is Bell TV Planning anything special for the Olympics?

In case that is not it, when did you place your order. I will try again tonight and give Bell a call if I can not set the timer.

They make everyone call in so that the employees are kept busy LOL

Good money is being spent on CSR and they want them to be working.

I think its better to jsut offer it when the time is up. I dont think it costs that much to have it open to everyone. They can jsut program it like those free preview changes that expires.
 
i call BTV today and i spoke to rep and he told me put even numer and you have automaticaly all event on all channel but i call to order first event skii jumping feb 12 a 1:00PM and the automated service confirm my order for this event but only for this event not all event on all channel. at this point i think all event need to order individualy
 
When I scheduled a recording of the Opening Ceremonies from the Bell channel, I was annoyed that the option to extend the recording time was grayed out. (I guess that's a consequence of treating those events as PPV?) And indeed, the event went over the scheduled 3 hours, but my recording ends at 3 hours, just before the lighting of the lame (in the sense of having one injured leg) cauldron. That's an unfortunate flaw in Bell's otherwise excellent provision of the Olympic feeds.

By the way, for those of you who watched that channel live, did the feed continue to the end of indoor ceremony, or even to the end of the lighting of the outdoor cauldron?
 
For one of the recent past Olympics (Beijing?), Bell provided a few extra channels that carried the raw video and audio feed from some events, without any annoying commentator overlay. That was a real treat. It would be great if they would do that for the 2010 Olympics too.
 
Yes it did. We saw the lighting of the indoor cauldron (which was the end of the cermony) and then followed Wayne through the city and down to water where he lit the main outdoor flame. Fabulous!

rdx, did you get the event ID from the program guide, or did you spot it elsewhere online (on the Bell site)?
 
Willy. Thats only from the "Don't have Bell TV?" section. Its tied to the "Save up to $300" text.
 
It was Beijing. To date, Bell TV has not announced anything like that although I expect they would announce it after Christmas and closer to the Opening of the games.
 
Same thing happened to me... the recording stopped just shy of Gretzky heading outdoors and missed the ending!

The other thing that I've noticed is that at some events, the broadcast is starting earlier than the posted time. The SWE-CHE women's hockey is a good example. The camera panned the crowd for at least 10 minutes before the official broadcast. Just before starting a 30-second countdown appeared on the screen fopr broadcasters, and then the official OBC lead-in started.

The event ID for the Opening Ceremonies is #80121. I just spoke to Bell and they told me that this is a one time process, that everything will be opened up after.

I wondered during Bejing if this wasn't all part of the agreement between Bell and the broadcasting channels - perhaps the networks wanted some assurances that the live feeds being presented on the dedicated channels would be difficult to get to so as not to drive away too much of their audience base.
 
well. i placed my call today and apparently it's a one-time thing. emily says i'm now open for all the events, no need to call back.

As dawger notes below, you simply call the 1-866 number and it opens up the channels for the entire length of the games.
 
One other thing i noticed tonight. Channel 386 is called Pcam. Apparently it's a player cam for the men's hockey.

I say great job Bell on all these extras we're getting.
