I was wonder I want to be a waitress but am not sure if I'll do a good job. Is being a waitress hard. I'm really low on funds and this is my last hope. Thanks
You need to be a good actor- for when your in a mood and have to be cheerful with customers
You need to able to work at top speed- its a fast paced business
You need to be really good with people- you'll be talking to them all day, not just "do you want fries with that" but interacting with them, asking about their day ect makes a better waitress
You need to not value your social too much-You will usually have to work weekends and evenings except if in a cafe or coffee shop or something.
You need to have a good memory and its a bonus if you love food-for remembering orders/regular customers/ info on the dishes.
It is something that can be taught but the best waiters/waitresses have these attributes.
It's definitely not easy. It was really hard at first, but you can learn. I think of waitressing as a game, greet the table, get the drinks, take their order, put it in, check on them a couple of times, give them their bill. But you have a few tables and their all at different stages in the game. Once you master the game you will be making $$!
Being a waitress is a good job if you're low on cash, trust me, I was a waitress for about two years. It's all about how much patience you have and how fast you're willing to learn. Since all restaurants and owners have different ways of running things you have to adjust to the guidelines that were already set before you started working there. Basically being a waitress requires physical strength for all those orders, lots and lots of patience for all those not so patient customers and even if you run into a complication while working as a waitress you just have to remember that you need the money, and you're doing this for YOU. Hope that helps
