It's supposedly impossible to change one's gender. Gender is what's ascribed to you when you're born; you're either mentally male or female, and attempting to change the irreversible is plain absurd because it'll either work to no avail, or induce serious damage. Sexual orientation is similar, in that it's a hard wired characteristic, which is theorized to also be congenital. Gay, lesbian, bisexual, heterosexual, asexual, etc. -- these are all immutable innate traits which, if tampered with, can also induce harm. So if a gender identity is like a sexual orientation, why is it that you only get people that claim to have changed their sexual orientation, e.g. "ex-gays", and never someone that claims to have willingly changed their gender?
