Is AT&T rebooting your phone and draining your batt?

Cool, though most parts of SD seem just fine.

I suppose I should have noticed this earlier, since my N97 was indicating an active packet data connection and Wifi... lol took me a day to realize what was going on.

My comments above were not meant to be in derogation of the comments and arguments of others in the thread.

I am merely relating a personal experience whereby one might reasonably deduce that the rebooting that some of us experience is related to something other than the network.

People who are better educated that I am and who are convinced that their issues are related to the extra channel on the network will know better than I do about what it is they are describing, and I do not mean to appear to be arguing with them.

Been having issues for months with my E71-2 in Miami. I did a hard reset and the problem continued.

What I have noticed that it is a "soft reboot" in that I am not asked for the SIM PIN or phone PIN, but the screen goes black and then goes to the white NOKIA splash screen.

I just called a local corporate store and they said they carry E71x....

I've complained about this several times on this forum, my E71 will reboot during a dowload or in the middle of a 3G call. I keep my device locked to UMTS so I only use the 3G network but it only happens when I am in the Philadelphia city limits and not out in the suburbs where I work. Now it seems this is a network issue? Doesn't surprise me too much I guess. Wonder how prevelent this is on the Roger's network...

Although this is a relatively old post. Im going to throw some input in here to. I have a N96-3 with what I believe to be the most up-to-date software. Version: 30.033 Software version date: 18-06-09 Custom Version 30.033.216.3 Custom Date 07-07-09 Type RM-472.

Prior to going on vacation and since I own it the phone will probably restart at least once a week. While traveling abroad on a 3g network Philippines and Thailand didnt have one problem with the phone. In fact, it had worked smoother and quicker with less problems then ever before. Coming back to the US-pop in my ATT sim card and the problems restarting and being sluggish come right back. Im in the Chicago-Land Area... I really think it's ATT not liking unlocked/unbranded phones on their network

Yea, my rebooting is not related to the network either, just another set of circumstances (running python, a network prog that accesses it, and Google maps). I wasn't clear on this when i started this thread. But after following it as others post their experiences, it really does seem that there is an issue in certain parts of the network (where 3rd channel is potentially deployed) that cause the e71 to glitch out and reboot as people reported it happening in those areas, while the phone was fine in others, or other Nokia models were fine.

The user must take the proper steps though to figure out why the phone is rebooting, and not just assume that it is network related.

I replaced my Nokia E71-2 with an HTC S743 and have 0 issues. No reboots. I have the $15 data plan and can tether fine with my PC and get 2mbps speeds. The issue is Nokia.

Well, according this entry on the Wikipedia , it seems that AT&T is implementing something that is not yet part of the WCDMA specification.

If that is the case, and not that the Wikipedia page is outdated, then I don't think that Nokia is at fault at all.

According to the page:

If that is so, then it is pretty reckless of AT&T to implement a technology without finding out if the phones they sell are compatible. And not coming up with a satisfactory solution after finding out about the problem.

N95-4 8GB, AT&T, firmware 20.2.005,
Reboots randomly when in 3G mode in NYC - YES OFTEN
Reboots when in GSM Only mode - NEVER
Reboots when in 3G mode outside of NYC - RARELY or NEVER

I wasn't going to post this but I am because Nokia didn't call me back today as promised.

I spoke to someone on Friday. I gave her my IMEI number and she wanted to know how often I am in Miami. After explaining that I live in Miami she basically had no other questions other than what phone from NokiaUsa.com would be an acceptable trade for my defective E71.

Her exact words "I am not here to confirm or deny the issues [with the E71 and AT&T's network]"

So Nokia is admitting there is an issue without admitting there is an issue.

LoFo, to me it is more like the issue where Sony was selling music discs with the "CD Audio" logo that weren't technically CD audio discs. AT&T is selling a UMTS network that is not technically compatible with the specifications (or even the phones they sell)!

Bravo to Nokia covering AT&T's proverbial ***.

6650 with 3.24 in NYC two weeks ago - FREQUENT reboots, lack of signal, battery usage through the roof.
Outside NYC, occasional reboots inside Washington DC, Alexandria,VA.

Updated to 3.26 over NSU today, I'll see if this helps!

My n97 has rebooted a few times; but more annoying is the insane amount of dropped calls I'm experiencing. I'm in south florida (ft. Lauderdale and hialeah)

I'm in Northwest Indiana, and my E71-2 (not x) has rebooted several times in the last week. It has also started running VERY slow, taking up to 10 seconds to open some apps, particularly emails and texts. I thought maybe it was related to the upgrade to System SEVEN I installed recently.

OK, so that is why I had trouble with my E71 when I was visiting in South Florida! I never have those issues with my phone in NY, but I was in the Deerfield Beach area for a week, end of Aug to Labor Day. Perfectly reliable battery draining in less than a day, several reboots out of nowhere, and every call I got showed in the log as the second call from that number within seconds. We were going nuts trying to figure it out.

What a shame! It's a great phone. And even though we have signal challenges here in NY state, it's nothing like that.
They gotta fix the towers in Florida.

Well it's just adding a 3rd channel to add more capacity.....which is odd for it to be a problem. I actually have some qualcomm paper about WCDMA and in one of their diagrams they actually show an example of a carrier's WCDMA channel setup...with 3 channels lol.

Either way, the phone shouldn't have to reboot.

Nice to hear they are actually going to do something for you.

Is AT&T rebooting your phone and draining your batt?

hmmm... my two phones are a e71-2 and a 6650. And I'm going to go to Miami at the end of the month... hmmm.... Should I tell the Nokia people to meet me at the airport with a brand new N86? :p

What? You think I should wait till the sh?t reaches me to then react?

Oh boy, this is going to be fun. Imagine this third carrier program across the nation is actually T-Mo black project. And imagine the new Nokias that T-Mo is going to flag dying and rebooting across the USA.

This would be vintage Dilbert and throw Nokia and T-mobile under the bus.

Nah! They couldn't be that dumb
