Is arguing pointless?

From my own personal observations it would seem to me that most people are so dead-set on proving that they are right that they often don't realize they are being proven wrong. In layman's terms, it appears to me that most people are too closed-minded to be able to reject/think more about a belief that they feel strongly about.

What do you think?
Wingsworth: You are correct but I mean logically speaking.

Yes it is. It's not worth the headache. Someone need to say, I am sorry. This would do a lot to the anger problem and the relationship. Try it.

Arguing? Yes. Debating? No. Arguing insinuates that each party is already set on their viewpoints and will not change. Debating is a way for each party to present their viewpoint and be open-minded to what each other has to say. Debating is very good for the mind. It is, in essence, the same thing as lifting weights but for your brain. Along with that, you also can solve many of life's dilemmas. Debating is how modern science has made such an impact on the modern world!

I have been forced to change my mind as the result of righteous debate. Sometimes it wasn't immediate, but over time their points simmered in my brain, until suddenly I understood.
