Is arguing & debating ways of preaching of the Prophets?

I want to know if any Prophet (PBUT) made argument or debated with their people to convince a truth. I mean like we do nowadays with hatred and anger amoung differant sects and here in the Ramdan section. I doubt if we are out side their ways when it comes to preaching Islam!.
