Is anyone interested in a Canadians view of US health insurance issues? Kind of long...?

It's true that most in Canada are satisfied with government run insurance. But there are big differences to the US. I married a Mi girl and now reside in MI. But I can tell you this, In Ontario you will need approval for any diagnostic tests, MRIs, or any non emergency treatments. The wait times are longer. Pretty much all treatments are standard for the condition. This means that alternatives or specialists are not available simply as you wish. Could US residents accept this? Some would but many would scream at not having their choices. Is this a form of rationing? Yes it is. And yes, wealthy do indeed go to the states for quicker treatments and more choices. There is envy for those who can. The big problem I see is that Washington has proven over and over that they are lousy at running anything. Everything is over budget by massive amounts. Even I, who grew up in Ontario could never support Washington run health insurance or care until they prove themselves capable stewards of our tax dollars. I don't see that happening anytime soon. One last thing- far more Canadians move to US than you seem to know, it is the land with more opportunity.

Why did that Canadian official come to the US for his surgery? If someone THAT high up in Canadian society can't get the treatment he needs, what hope is there for someone of lower economic means in a "government-run health care syst" ?!
