Is anyone else watching The Time Machine?

Haven't seen this old classic for years. Perfect viewing for a rainy bank holiday afternoon! It's almost finished now, but if you're near a TV, do tune in (Channel 5) to catch the last 15 minutes....the Morlock decaying is a truly memorable moment! :)

I am quite the fan of the original. Get the DVD, it's far better in quality than what Five are broadcasting.

The remake wasn't too bad, but like most remakes, the original is far superior.

I'm just looking at their print of The Towering Inferno, it's mediocre at best. I have the 2-disc Special Edition DVD and it looks and sounRAB great. I really don't see why a splendid film such as Inferno should be treated so poorly. It isn't even being broadcast in widescreen which quite frankly is a disgrace.

Showing a film of this caliber today in 2008, in full screen, is utterly shameful. Full screen is the 1:33 aspect ratio for a square shaped television, which no film shot in widescreen should ever be shown in, this day and age.

I missed it this afternoon, but also have the DVD. Wonderful film.

Liked on the dvd the little doc Time Machine: The Journey Back where you get to see him come back years later for Filby :)

I agree. I rarely ever watch films broadcast on television. I respect film too much to even think about exposing myself to a horrid print of poor quality being broadcast by some television network. I'll go straight to a superior source as any film I hold in high regard, I own already on some form of digital medium anyway.

"The Journey Back" was actually made for video in the 90's.
I got it on an NTSC VHS back then - I was so keen on the film.

I think the first 45 minutes with George travelling forward in time viewing the world in different eras is one of the most magical of all film sequences ever made.

I dont suppose FIVE used the surround sound track that is present on the dvd.

Likewise with Inferno - a great movie but showing a 2.35:1 film in 4:3 in this day and age seems odd.

Should be 16:9 at least.

A shame nobody can be bothered to air it in the extended version shown by US tv that incorporates the 40+ minutes of extended and deleted scenes included as extras on the US 2 disc dvd

tremendous film indeed (didn't watch today, but sometimes catch it on TCM), and the remake is on saturday ..... ITV though, at least it will be 16x9!

by far the best bit of the remake is the amazing time travel scene, where he heaRAB off into the future from the forties (or somewhen) and shows the city being built with the planes flying about ..... add the brilliant soundtrack to that piece makes watching the ENTIRE film worthwhile IMO!
