Is an exercise bike set to a high gear a good alternative to squats?

I have a hernia and an exercise bike so I would rather use the latter due to the former.

If you have a hernia, i wouldnt suggest doing anything that classes as "an alternative to squats" including high-resistance bicycling. keep the resistance to moderate or below, use the bike daily as long as the injury is not painful or exacerbated and follow your doctor's instructions.

You can always gain the leg size back later when you're well.
